Our series is focused on the 7 Ways God’s Spirit DESIRES To Lead Us.
- Listen to me. The Spirit desires to lead us, but we have to desire TO BE LED!
We all have the potential of being led by God’s Spirit, we are all capable of being led, but we don’t always live up to our full potential in God.
Why should we desire to be led by the Spirit of the Lord? The answer is relatively simple, because our thoughts are tainted by our
It was Adam’s reasoning and intellect that led him down the path of choosing the wrong thing.
- Adam thought he knew better than God, but the result was chaos and destruction.
The Prophet Isaiah paints the picture of the weakness of our thoughts in contrast to the strength of God’s thoughts – Isaiah 55:7-9.
In many of his passages Isaiah wrote about God’s desire to lead us – 30:21.
The theme for our series is found in – Isaiah 11:2.
- Spirit of the Lord Intimacy
- Wisdom Order
- Understanding Clarity
- Counsel Clear Path
- Might Energy
- Knowledge Ability
- Fear of the Lord Accountability
Today’s focus will be on the second dimension of God’s leading; WISDOM – ORDER.
Wisdom from God is such a powerful gift….tell the story of young Solomon.
King Solomon wrote three of the five O.T. Wisdom books; Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. Throughout these books Solomon touted
the high value of God’s wisdom.
We’ll read several of them later on, but one example is Proverbs 8:11 “For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire
cannot be compared with her.”
#1 Wisdom Brings Order Out of Chaos
The Bible starts with the story of creation. I love the way the Living Bible frames it.
Genesis 1:1-2 LB “When God began creating the heavens and the earth, the earth was a shapeless, chaotic mass, with the Spirit of God brooding over the dark vapors.”
The first act of creation was to bring order to the chaos. As God pondered the darkness and the chaos, His Spirit of wisdom began to churn.
Some of you are living in a shapeless, chaotic world of darkness. I want you to know the Spirit of God is brooding over you TODAY desiring
to bring order and God’s wisdom into the chaos.
Listen to me. Everything God does is done decently and IN ORDER, and that’s exactly what He offers to us in our daily lives.
Mark it down. Where there is confusion and disorder the wisdom of God is absent. Confusion is a tale-tale sign that the devil is at work and the Spirit of God has not yet been unleashed.
God’s wisdom brings order out of the chaos of our relationships!
James 3:13-18 “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14-But if you
have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15-This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. 16-For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17-But the wisdom that is from above is
first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
God’s wisdom brings peace to the confusion and instability of our home. When our home life is not operating in the wisdom of God, its security is seriously compromised.
In another verse in Isaiah he writes, “The city of confusion is broken down; every house is shut up, so that none may go in.” Isaiah 24:10
In the N.T. the Apostle Paul wrote, “God is not the author of confusion but of peace.” 1 Corinthians 14:33
Every society that has ever thrived has had order. Every thriving organization has policy, boundaries, and specific rules that govern it.
Cleanliness is a sign of orderliness. A mother told her 6 year old son to clean up his room and said cleanliness was next to godliness. The little boy asked, is that
why our church is next to the Laundromat?
Where you find messiness and disorder the wisdom of God will not function well there.
When you look at God’s creation, when you consider the orderliness of nature, you realize our creator values precision. Mark 7:37 says, “HE DOES ALL THINGS WELL.”
- Always: 60 seconds in every minute, 60 minutes in every hour, 24 hours in every day
- Always: exactly 3 months of spring, of summer, of autumn, and of winter to the day
- Always: 365 days a year and one extra every 4 years
John Maxwell said, “If 99.9 percent is good enough, then two million documents will be lost by the IRS this year, twenty-two thousand checks will be deducted from wrong bank accounts in the next sixty minutes, 1,314 telephone calls will be misplaced by phone company every minute, twelve babies will be given to the wrong parents every day, 20,000 incorrect drug prescriptions will be written in the next twelve months, all if 99.9 percent is good enough.”
Paul tied order and steadfastness to the development of faith.
To the Colossian Christians he wrote; Colossians 2:5 “For I rejoice to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.”
To pastor Titus he wrote; Titus 1:5 “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you.”
When things are NOT in order in our lives, the Spirit of wisdom desires to help us.
There are times when the chaos in our life is not of our doing. Sometimes life runs off the rails even when we’ve tried to live in the wisdom of order.
But truth be told, there are other times when the chaos of our life is precisely because of our own disorder. If you’ll ask God, He will help you to bring order out of the chaos.
How does that happen?
#2 Wisdom Must Be Sought After
Just like Solomon asked God for wisdom, I need to consistently ask God for wisdom. I recognize my own inability and I need all of God’s wisdom I can possibly garner.
Solomon said we ought to seek after God’s wisdom as much as we would priceless treasures like gold and silver – Proverbs 2:6-7, 3:13-19, 4:5-9. (Screen #18-24)
If you will seek after God’s wisdom in every situation HE WILL GIVE IT.
And the REWARDS of wisdom will enrich your life.
God’s wisdom will grow you. His wisdom will grow your ministry. His wisdom will grow your marriage. His wisdom will grow your business.
In Proverbs 8 Solomon wrote about wisdom in the ‘first-person,’ as if wisdom itself was speaking to us about its power to reward us – Proverbs 8:15-21.
There is nothing in your life that is beyond the reach of God’s wisdom IF you diligently seek after His divine wisdom which He gives through the direction of His Holy Spirit.
#3 Wisdom Is Given By God To Those Who Ask
This series is intended to stir up our minds and hearts into believing that God is exactly who He said He was, and that He will guide every decision IF we will diligently seek Him in faith.
Perhaps the Apostle James was thinking of Solomon when he wrote; “If any of you need wisdom, ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone. He doesn’t find fault.” NIrV James 1:5
