“7 Ways God’s Spirit Desires To Lead Us”

Isaiah 11:2

Let’s read the text – Isaiah 11:2.

The 5th way in which God’s Spirit desires to lead us is through a Spirit of MIGHT.

  • Most of us want just God to fix our problems for us. We feel weak and powerless.
  • But God often wants to give us a clear plan {Counsel} and He wants to infuse us with the Spirit of might so that we can go and fix the problem ourselves.

We don’t want to have to fight the battle. We just want God to take the enemy away. And sometimes God says, “You need to go in the strength of My might and face the enemy!”
  • Paul was a warrior who died on death row while serving the Lord. He said, “The Lord stood with me and strengthened me.” 2 Timothy 4:17
  • David was a mighty man of valor who, at the age of 15, killed a lion and a bear, and at the age of 16 killed a giant named Goliath with a sling shot. He knew the confident feeling that the Spirit of might brings – 1 Samuel 17:45-47.
  • Jesus was a champion. Knowing He was going to be crucified, He turned His face towards Jerusalem and marched into the lion’s den.
And every one of them had to face the giant, look the devil in the eye and not back down. How did they do it? They all had God’s Spirit of might operating in their mind, body and soul.

“Might” {Hebrew} ‘Gibbor’ 1. To be powerful 2. To be a warrior 3. A champion 4. To be strong 5. To excel 6. To be bold in the face of danger 7. To be fearless in adversity 8. Victorious

The might of God’s Spirit strengthens the heart of man to openly, fearless, and boldly meet any challenge the powers of darkness may bring our way.

Note the couplings that Isaiah used; wisdom AND understanding, counsel AND might.

Here’s how I see it in my mind. We have a situation of chaos and darkness. The sheer magnitude of the problem drains us.
  • It saps our mental energy so clear thinking goes out the window.
  • It drains our spiritual energy so the pursuit of God, our only hope, is none existent.
  • We get physically tired. A sense of hopelessness, depression, and despair all lead to a weakened condition that makes us want to crawl into bed and stay there forever.
#1 A Spirit of Might Breaks A Spirit of Fear

There have been times in my life when a spirit of fear has gripped me so strong I thought my life was going to end. It can cripple us. It can bind us with an overwhelming sense of despair.

And when that happens, we ARE powerless. When that happens, we ARE vulnerable.

Pastor Timothy was leading a great church in Ephesus. Church history tells us his was the largest church to that point in Christendom. Things were going great. The attendance was in the tens of thousands. The needs were all being met. And then came Nero….tell story.

Timothy wanted to quit. He wanted to cut and run. He went to Paul for permission and comfort and Paul gave him comfort, but not permission to quit.

While on death row, just a few days away from his own execution the aged Apostle Paul advised young Timothy to stay strong in God’s might – 2 Timothy 2:1, 3.

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

The only way to endure hardship is through a Spirit of might. Paul was trying to speak that truth into Timothy’s heart.
He reminded Timothy of how difficult it can be – 2 Timothy 2:8. Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel,
  • Jesus died by the power of God’s might and He was raised by the same power!

Paul was being kept in prison by the Spirit of might – 2 Timothy 2:9-10. “I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. 10-Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”

Timothy had visited Paul and wept from fear and frustration – 2 Timothy 1:4.

Paul spoke strongly to Timothy. You didn’t get fear from God – 2 Timothy 1:7.

#2 A Spirit of Might Gives A Can-Do Spirit – Zechariah 1

One of the things chaos can bring is a spirit of defeatism. When defeatism gets into our soul, we have no desire to move forward. We hunker down. We shut down.
The 10 spies had it. They were overwhelmed with the giants in the land and had no plans to move forward.

Gideon, Scriptures to open – zech 4:6, Isa 9:6, Dan 2:20, Isa 40:25, Eph 6:10

Samson had it on many occasions.
Might = gives me a CAN DO Spirit!
Where fear is operating mark it down, we are NOT walking in the power and might of the Holy Spirit.
Eph 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
2 Tim 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
This characteristic of God’s Spirit is courage, boldness, strength, fortitude, determination, drive, clear focus, resolve, and power.
It’s the same Spirit that captured David and drove him to face the giant named Goliath.
The opposite is weakness, laxness, laziness, lethargy, and listlessness. God wants us to shake off this spirit.

Elijah – get up, eat, and run in the power of the Spirit.

Hi Pastor Ron,
I received a prophecy from the Lord during the 11 o’clock service yesterday. I felt compelled to send it to you.  I specifically believe it has strong application to you.
Stand up tall in My Spirit
Stand up strong in the power of My might
Stand up straight with your arms lifted high to heaven, from whence comes all your help
I have adorned you with My beautiful Son
I have cloaked you with My mantle to fulfill My calling on your life
I have equipped you with My very own armor to win the battle, yes the very Armor of God.
When you think small, when you aim too low, these adornments from heaven will seem too heavy, like a heavy weight upon your shoulders.
The weariness that sets in, caused by doubt and unbelief, is not of Me says the Lord.
But when you aim high, when you pursue the target intended by God, then the enabling of God which is already upon you will come alive with power from heaven, and you will be endued with power from on high.  It is this equipping which I have called you to walk in.  It is this course which I now call you to pursue.
Lift up your eyes to see the target.  Lift up your countenance to see Me.  The more clearly you see Me, the more clearly you will see your future.
Stand up tall in My Spirit!

The wisdom, guidance and power we all so desperately need begin when we seek intimacy with God.
