I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11 NIV).
In 2011, Laura Story released the song “Blessings.” It became a number one hit. Take a look at the lyrics of her song:
We pray for blessings; we pray for peace,
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep.
We pray for healing, for prosperity.
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering.
And all the while, You hear each spoken need,
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things.
‘Cause, what if your blessings come through rain drops?
What if Your healing comes through tears?
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know that You are near?
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?
I knew there had to be a story behind Laura’s song. It turns out her husband, Martin was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and Laura prayed, “Why didn’t you just fix this, God? You’re all powerful and all loving—just fix it.” Later she told her sister of her desire to return to normal, her sister said, “You know, what IF the detour is actually the road.”
The only way to experience peace in hard times is to look carefully at what God is doing in the adversity. We have to adopt a biblical mindset. What is your focus today? Talk to God about helping you adjust your thinking to a biblical mindset.
