#2—Add to Virtue, Knowledge
Virtue has to be directed in the right direction, for the right reasons, with the right approach. Growth in the knowledge of God will give direction and thrust to the arrow of virtue. Bombing an abortion clinic may seem like a virtuous act to those who lack knowledge, but it’s not God’s way to stop injustice.
Virtue without knowledge makes you a wild-eyed zealot, and it ultimately hurts the cause of Christ.
Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
#3—Add to Knowledge, Self-control
In his book, “Hearts of Iron, Feet of Clay,” Gary Inrig writes: “Samson, when brave, strangled a lion; but he could not strangle his own love. He burst the fetters of his foes; but not break the cords of his own lusts. He burned the crops of others, and lost the fruit of his own virtue when burning with the flame, kindled by a single woman.”
Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. It is not just a matter of more will power!
So how do we get self-control? We ask God for it. We ask God to reveal it to our spirit man. If your life is out of control seek God’s control!
Proverbs 16:32 “It is better to be patient than powerful; it is better to have self-control than to conquer a city.”
