The Bible Is Prophetically Precise

There are over 300 prophecies regarding Jesus written anywhere from 400 to 1500 years before His birth. They all came to pass:

  • The place of his birth was prophesied 750 years before it happened. Micah wrote; “Out of you Bethlehem will come the ruler of Israel, whose coming is from ancient days” (Micha 5:2)
  • His crucifixion was prophesied by His great, great … great grandfather, David in Psalm 22. The detail is staggering.

And the craziest thing is that David wrote this prophesy 300 years before crucifixions even existed!

The Bible is not only historically accurate, but it is also prophetically precise.

The 40 men who wrote the Bible lived in more than a dozen countries on three continents, covering a span of 1600 years. Think about this. Writing independently of each other without the benefit of Facebook, Twitter or emails, they each prophesied about the coming Messiah Jesus Christ – and every prophecy came to pass.

Josh McDowell, in his book, Evidence That Demands a Verdict says the probability of that happening randomly is like taking 10^17 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They’d cover the face of the state two feet deep. Then mark one (just one) of the silver dollars (with a sharpie or something) and stir the silver dollars all over the state. “Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel as far as he wishes, but he must pick up one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would’ve had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man, from their day to the present time, providing they wrote them in their own wisdom.”

In a previous blog in this series, you read Peter’s own claim of reliability based on his own eyewitness account. In that same chapter, he went on to say that the Old Testament carried the same reliability as Peter’s writings.

“So we regard the words of the prophets as confirmed beyond all doubt. You’re doing well by paying attention to their words. First, you must understand this: No prophecy in Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation. No prophecy ever originated from humans. Instead, it was given by the Holy Spirit as humans spoke under God’s direction” (2 Peter 1:19-21).

More than 3/4 of biblical prophecy has already been fulfilled with absolute accuracy. That means 1/4 of the prophecies have not yet happened. I assure you, the prophecies which have not yet been fulfilled with most certainly be fulfilled in God’s time.

The Bible is prophetically precise.

Strong Evidence: The Gifts of the Spirit

Strong Evidence: The Gifts of the Spirit

Paul gives us a list of the Gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12. The Spirit’s gifts are; word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment of spirits, tongues and interpretation of tongues.

The whole focus of that passage in 1 Corinthians 12 is the proper use of the Spirit’s gifts within the Body of Christ in ministry to the Body. We often relegate the function of these Spirit gifts only in the context of the church and body ministry. But I am convinced there are people who are filled with the Spirit and blessed with gifts of the Spirit at times they are completely unaware of.

When you are filled with the Spirit there will be times the gift of discernment comes upon you, and it rises up within you and says, “Don’t make this business deal with them!” And you feel something in the pit of your stomach that words cannot express and no person told you, but the person of the Holy Spirit guided you away from a bad situation.

Kids, you have to trust that your mom and dad if they’re filled with the Spirit, and at times will know things about one of your friends that no one else told them, but the Spirit did! Trust their ability to hear God’s Spirit on your behalf!

My wife, Dorene used to tell our son, Drew, “Tell me now, or the Spirit will tell me later!”

BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT!
